[Laboratory XI - Interpreting past Climate from Fossil Leaf Assemblages]

NOTE: Please bring a calculator or other computing aid to lab.

Objective: In this lab you will study fossil angiosperm (dicot) leaves and use some features of shape and size to deduce ancient climate. The flora you will be studying is from Buffalo Canyon, Nevada and is of mid-Miocene age. In addition to collecting data and drawing a climate inference, you will have a chance to look at some other floras from the western North American Tertiary and think about how they compare with the Buffalo Canyon flora.
