Jane Mason
Senior PreparatorEmail: j_mason@berkeley.edu Phone: (510) 642-0203 Her work at UCMP:
Jane manages the Fossil Preparation Lab, where she
utilizes a variety of techniques and tools to remove fossils from their matrix and make them available for research. She also creates casts of the fossils to allow scientists all over the world to study the same specimen. She says of preparing fossils: "It's the perfect combination of art and science."
Why UCMP?
Jane enjoys working with the museum's broad range of fossils, from plants, microfossils, vertebrates, and invertebrates. "Every fossil that comes in is going to have a different set of techniques; from the microscopic scale, like the tiny teeth of Cretaceous mammals to the giant,
such as a plesiosaur. It keeps the job very exciting." |
