Annual open house on Cal Day Every April, UCMP opens its doors to visitors during Cal Day, UC Berkeley's annual open house. UCMP's Cal Day events vary from year to year, but usually include tours, lectures, demonstrations and a reception. For more information see:

Short courses Each year, normally in the spring, UCMP presents a weekend short course in current topics of interest. The course is appropriate for the general public, and also contains information and activities of particular interest to science teachers.

Special events
- Think evolution V: A summer institute for science educators Five fun-filled days (July 29-August 2, 2013) of evolutionary explorations with biologists and educators will be had here at the University of California.
- The East Bay Science Cafe is an informal forum for discussing interesting and relevant scientific issues. The goal is to encourage public engagement with science by inviting members of the scientific community to present topics for a casual evening of conversation.

Docent-led tours
Guided tours, accompanied by a graduate student docent, are available for school and youth groups during the school year. The tours are scheduled upon availability of a docent. Find out more about these tours.
