From the trail, the group looked out over the estuary, observing the dendritic pattern of the channels below.

As they walked along, participants continued to observe the topography, locate the trail on the map, and compare notes.
There were frequent stops to observe and record natural features seen along the trail (below, clockwise from top left): drying mud cracks, wild Douglas Iris, horsetails, rocks, and erosional features.
