Ode to Quarry 4
Along the River Colville on Alaska’s northern shore
Two intrepid diggers worked at the Quarry Four.
The rock within was cold and chunky,
Fractured while recumbent;
The rock without kept sliding down
And threatened them with entombment.
Though they might have tarried to work another task
They studied bones there buried to answer questions asked.
