Science Standards
The Evolution of Flight in Birds meets the following standards:
National Standards Grades 9 12
Life Science, Content Standard C: Biological Evolution
- Species evolve over time.
- Natural selection and its evolutionary consequences provide a scientific
explanation for the fossil record of ancient life forms.
- The millions of different species of plants, animals, and microorganisms
that live on Earth today are related by descent from common ancestors.
- Biological classifications are based on how organisms are related. Organisms
are classified into a hierarchy of groups and subgroups based on similarities,
which reflect their evolutionary relationships.
Life Science, Content Standard C: The Behavior of Organisms
- Like other aspects of an organism's biology, behaviors have evolved through
natural selection. Behaviors often have an adaptive logic when viewed in terms
of evolutionary principles.
