Evidence Chart

The Evidence Chart can be used by students to gather information about what they learn. The chart is divided into two columns. The first column, labeled Evidence, lists several types of evidence found within the fossil record. The second column is entitled What it tells us. As students explore each of the pathways, they will find the “evidence” listed. They should fill in the second column to explain what we can learn from that evidence. The following example is given on the handout: Evidence: Growth rings in fossil trees or shells. What it tells us: Growth rings tell us the number of years that individual lived.
