Parka decipiens is believed to be the only known
fossil of the freshwater green algae, the Coleochaetales. The Coleochaetales
is a small order, having only two living genera with 15 species. The
fossils of Parka decipiens are found in Upper Silurian to Lower
Devonian rocks, meaning that they were around when the first land
plants began to appear. Find out more about this unusual group of
organisms here.
