Molecular Phylogenetics Laboratory
at the University of California
Berkeley
The Molecular Phylogenetics Laboratory (MPL) is a joint research facility, sponsored by the Museum of Paleontology and the University/Jepson Herbaria at the University of California in Berkeley, designed to provide new insights into the evolutionary and systematic relationships of organisms through the analyses of molecular data. The MPL, located in the Valley Life Sciences Building (VLSB), is structured to support post-Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) applications for molecular evolutionary, paleontological, phylogenetic and systematics research. Projects currently being conducted in the MPL range from investigating the biogeography, molecular systematics, phylogeny and evolution of bryophytes, ferns, seed plants, foraminifera, jellyfish and gastropods, to understanding the patterns and causes of evolutionary change at the molecular and morphological levels (for a list of representative publications by people affiliated with the lab, click here).
