These tables are used as authority files for personal names, institution names and addresses. Using an authority file prevents multiple entries of different spellings or capitalizations of a name, such as Don savage, D. E. Savage, D. Savege (all examples from our catalogs).

Agent

Agents are used to track people and institutions where an address must be used, and changes of address need to be maintained in the system.
