Sera and Bill search for microvertebrates

On our first day on the outcrop, Bill trained Sera in "crawling" a new area for microvertebrate specimens. Some tiny teeth are only a millimeter long, so if you don't have magnifying glasses like Bill is using in this picture, you have to pretty much put your nose in the dirt. Newt Gingrich would have a different opinion about women's ability to live in dirt if he had seen Sera! This formerly quiet, academic woman took to crawling and quarrying with gusto -- and after more than a month of her work, UCMP has the fossils to prove it!
