Dr. Carl Swisher, a co-investigator on the grant that made this trip possible, was unable to come with the rest of us because of a previous commitment. He sent Barry Albright, then a graduate student at U. C. Riverside, in his place. Barry had a lot of previous experience with getting the kind of rock samples needed for paleomagnetic analysis, which would help us refine the ages of the fossils we found. Barry and I sampled six stratigraphic sections, and then I would get to drive the samples back to the Berkeley Geochronology Center, where he and Carl could work on them.
