Following the open house and reception, Beth Burnside, Vice Chancellor for Research, welcomed nearly 400 guests to the evening program, which included presentations by Eugenie Scott, Executive Director for the National Center for Science Education; Professor David B. Wake, Museum of Vertebrate Zoology; and Jamie Stobie, co-producer of the final episode of the PBS series on evolution. The audience also enjoyed highlights from the series and the opportunity for informal conversation with the speakers.||
2001A Science Odyssey
This year the California Science Teachers Association (CSTA) included a Professional Development Strand on Biology and the Nature of Science held in conjunction with its annual meeting in Palm Springs, CA, October 2528, 2001. UCMP was a key player in planning this strand and provided several of the core workshop sessions. In addition, Kevin Padian, Eugenie Scott, and long time friends of UCMP, Bruce Tiffney (UCSB) and David Deamer (UCSC), presented a stimulating series of content sessions.
