Track mystery 3

Answer: These tracks are thought to have been made by a large cat — possibly Smilodon (a saber-toothed cat), a cougar, or a jaguar — all of which were present in Missouri during the Pleistocene. Part of a jaguar jaw was found near the cat tracks in the cave. This lends support to the idea that the track-maker may have been a jaguar.

Jaguars, like the one above, lived as far north as what is now Missouri, USA, during the Pleistocene Epoch. Photograph from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
