PREPARATION TIME:
1-2 hours to review the Teacher's Guide and module.
CLASS TIME:
Field Component: 35-45 minutes
Lab Components: 60-70 minutes total (in two sections)
Special Assignment: 70-90 minutes (preparation and presentation)
Estimated times are dependent on student learning level. The on-line module is split into three sections. The experience is most effective if students complete one section at a time, and participate in discussions as a class or in teams before beginning the next section.
HANDOUTS: Handouts include a terms list, instructions for the special assignment, a rubric for assessing the special assignment, and several items reproduced from the module (a data table and graph, an analysis of direct and indirect evidence, and guidelines for collection and analysis of data). Student journal questions can also be printed and used as a handout if necessary.
VOCABULARY: matrix, element, stratigraphy, morphology, Cretaceous, Paleocene, K/T Boundary. See the terms list in the teacher's guide for more.
